With all his stats bar the combobreaking Speed ending in 7, Dr. Octogonapus is not just a lucky guy, but also is fearsome Special attacker with an extreme 177 Special Attack and 115 Speed. However, he's weak to Stealth Rock and some common attacking types. Luckily, the often forgotten Motor Drive grants him a free Speed boost and no damage when targeted with an Electric attack, which effectively gets rid of one weakness too. Dr. Octogonapus can't really abuse Technician, and Motor Drive is just better than Weak Armor because of the immunity it offers.

With Choice Specs, Octogonapus can show his opponent the maximum extent of his power. You may want a Life Orb with Psychic or Psyshock instead if you don't want the doctor to do a hit-and-run strategy. It is also possible to use a Choice Scarf, which will make Dr. Octogonapus blazingly fast (hitting 494 Speed with Modest already). The first Psycho Boost will severely hurt anything that isn't Dark type, double resists Psychic or is called Reimu. Air Slash can be used over Hurricane if you aren't fond of 70% accuracy, Volt Switch is to switch out of counters and deal damage at the same time, and Focus Blast is to hit Dark types hard. Hidden Power Fighting can be used over it if you want a whopping 50 less power just to fix the 70% accuracy problem.

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) / Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind

As Dr. Octogonapus is quite bulky as well, a Calm Mind set can be run. If the opponent lets this Octogonapus set up, they got to be afraid, especially if it switched into an Electric attack. The move choices have already been explained in the previous set.
Other Options
Grass Knot, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt
Grass Knot hits heavy ones like Doomsday very hard, who is one of the checks for Octogonapus.
Ice Beam can be used to cover Dragons with. With a Life Orb or Choice Specs as item, it OHKOs an offensive Iku.
Thunderbolt is stronger than Volt Switch, but lacks that great effect of an instant switch.
Checks and Counters
Doomsday can take a hit and OHKO Octogonapus with Head Smash or Stone Edge. If Octogonapus was already damage, Sucker Punch can whittle it down too. Reimu can be switched into Octogonapus and start stalling or using Ice Beam or Thunderbolt for decent damage. Tacgnol can survive Focus Blast and KO Octogonapus with Dark Pulse afterward. It might sound attractive to bring in the faster Marisa and Master Spark or Thunder Octogonapus, or Captain Falcon with Wild Charge, but because of Motor Drive that isn't possible. Lastly, Zalgo and Slenderman are faster if the doctor isn't Scarfed and can hit him super effectively.
